COVID-19

Swabbing

If you have symptoms of COVID-19, or have been advised to get a test, you can be tested at the Rotorua Swabbing Clinic at Copthorne Hotel, off Ward Avenue. Please view the Lakes DHB website for the operational hours of the swabbing clinic.

You may also be able to get a test at your local General Practice. Please contact your GP to see if this is an option.

If you require advice please contact the national Healthline number on 0800 358 3563.

For more information please visit https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-health-advice-general-public/about-covid-19#symptoms

If you have a test at the Rotorua Community Testing Clinic, your test result will be back within 2-3 days and is usually sent to people via text message.

If it has been more than four days and you do not have your results please email us at either SwabRotorua@lakesdhb.govt.nz or SwabTaupo@lakesdhb.govt.nz with your name and date of birth and we will follow-up with you.

Post Test/Isolation Information

If you have been tested for COVID-19:

  • please go straight home. You will be notified when the result is available, usually between 2–5 days
  • if you are a contact of a current case, check Contact tracing for COVID-19 for the actions you must follow,

It is strongly recommended that you:

  • isolate at home if you have symptoms
  • stay at home while you await your result.

Read more about staying home if you have COVID-19 symptoms and/or are waiting for a test result.

In some cases, your local public health official may also ask you to self-isolate while you stay at home. This means you will need to take extra steps to stay away from other members of your household, to further reduce the risk of you transmitting the COVID-19 virus to them if you have it.

Read more about how to self-isolate.

Advice on whether household members of close contacts of cases will need to self-isolate will be made on a case-by-case basis on advice from a medical officer of health.

For more information isolation, please visit the Ministry of Health website here.
